🎐 Program Volunteer Ke Luar Negeri

Selama 6 minggu di bulan Januari-Februari 2020, Farrel Alvieri mengikuti program Global Volunteer AIESEC di Republik Ceko. Mahasiswa Universitas Jember ini berbagi pengalamannya mewakili Indonesia di luar negeri, khususnya dalam bidang pendidikan. Bagaimana ceritanya? Yuk, kita saksikan! *** Perkenalkan semuanya, saya Farrel Alvieri, seorang mahasiswa Ilmu Sejarah Universitas Jember angkatan 2018. Saya adalah seorang anak kampung yang berasal dari kota kecil bernama Indramayu. Saya berkuliah dengan tujuan untuk memperbaiki taraf hidup agar menjadi seseorang yang berguna untuk banyak orang. Awal mula saya tertarik mengikuti program Global Volunteer AIESEC di Universitas Jember berawal dari acara “Seminar Yuk ke Luar Negeri” yang diselenggarakan oleh AIESEC in Universitas Jember pada April 2019. Di sana terdapat sejumlah pembicara yang pernah menjejakkan kaki di negeri orang, termasuk beberapa peserta program pertukaran pelajar. Mulailah saya mendaftar, wawancara hingga mempersiapkan segala dokumen untuk proses keberangkatan. Singkat cerita, tibalah waktunya untuk terbang melanglangbuana ke benua seberang yang belum pernah saya lalui sebelumnya. Rasa senang, bahagia, sedih dan haru bercampur menjadi satu. I was so speechless at the time. I did not have high expectation for this, just go and do the best. Hingga akhirnya tibalah saya di benua Eropa, sebuah tempat asing bagiku yang berjarak sekitar kilometer jauhnya dari tanah air. Saya berada di Pilsen, sebuah kota yang terletak di sebelah barat Republik Ceko. Di sana saya bertemu dengan sejumlah orang yang memiliki latar belakang dan karakteristiknya masing-masing. Tercatat, terdapat sebanyak 43 sukarelawan yang berasal dari 17 negara berbeda. Indonesia dan Ukraina mengirim delegasi terbanyak, yakni sebanyak 7 sukarelawan. Hari terakhir Global Village di Olympia Mall, Pilsen pada Minggu, 26 Januari 2020 Foto diambil oleh seorang AIESECer in Pilsen Selama saya berada di Pilsen Region, saya menyambangi 5 sekolah yang masing-masing tersebar di berbagai tempat. Sejatinya semua sekolah memiliki kesan dan pesannya tersendiri yang membuat saya nyaman berada di dalamnya, namun kali ini saya hanya akan menjelaskan sekolah yang paling membuat pengalaman saya berkesan, yakni Základní škola Zbůch. Di sana, saya memiliki keluarga angkat yang kebetulan merupakan seorang guru di sekolah setempat. Mereka merupakan sepasang suami istri yang luar biasa ramah dan baik kepada saya. Saya merasa seperti berada di rumah saat bersamanya. Hal unik dan lucu yang selalu membuat saya tertawa ialah saat kami berbicara melalui Google Translate. Kebetulan mereka tidak berbicara dalam bahasa Inggris dan saya pun tidak berbicara dalam bahasa Ceko sehingga membuat kami harus melakukan hal sepele yang terdengar konyol. Namun begitulah realitanya. Mereka pun suka sekali mengajak saya mengobrol di sela-sela waktu berkumpul. Sejatinya mereka penasaran terhadap Indonesia maka saya jelaskan sejelas-jelasnya kepada mereka negara saya. Senang rasanya menjadi duta bangsa di negeri orang sehingga kita dapat berpartisipasi dalam penyebaran budaya dan identitas bangsa kepada bangsa lainnya. Banyak pengalaman tak terlupakan yang saya peroleh dari keluarga ini, seperti rasa hangat masyarakat bule kepada orang Asia seperti saya, lalu untuk pertama kalinya dalam hidup saya bermain bowling serta melihat dan merasakan salju secara langsung, mencoba dan merasakan kuliner lokal yang ingin saya rasakan kembali dan hal-hal lainnya yang tidak dapat saya sebutkan semuanya. Saya bersama keluarga angkat kanan dan kiri saya saat mengunjungi anak dan menantu mereka Di samping itu, saya pun dibuat terkesima oleh orang-orang di lingkungan sekolah, baik siswa, staff maupun guru. Mereka benar-benar membuat saya merasa seperti keluarga. Sejujurnya ini merupakan pengalaman pertama saya dalam mengemban amanah menjadi seorang duta bangsa sekaligus inspirator bagi orang-orang yang berbeda ras dengan saya. Saya merasa berterima kasih dalam menjalankan tugas ini, karena dengan begitu maka saya dapat menunjukkan identitas saya sebagai anak bangsa yang diharapkan dapat membawa nama baik bangsa di negeri orang. Saya pun suka dengan sapaan ringan anak-anak, seperti “Ahoj Farrel.” Meski mereka tidak berbicara dalam bahasa Inggris, namun kami memiliki relasi yang cukup dekat bahkan saya selalu mengingat kehangatan seorang anak perempuan berusia 10 tahun yang selalu meminta saya untuk memeluknya. Saya hanya terharu dan tentu saja bahagia dibuat olehnya. Segala kenangan bersama mereka akan selalu tersimpan dalam sanubari. Saya bersama si gadis Serbia, si anak ceria berusia 10 tahun kiri saya beserta kawannya Foto diambil oleh seorang ibu si anak ceria berusia 10 tahun, ia seorang juru masakdi sekolah sekaligus seorang fotografer profesional Di samping saya membangun relasi dengan orang-orang di sekolah, saya pun membangun relasi sesama volunteer. Dari sekian banyak volunteer yang berpartisipasi, terdapat seorang gadis berkebangsaan Serbia yang berteman baik dengan saya. Saya seringkali menghabiskan waktu bersamanya, mulai dari membahas tugas selaku duta bangsa masing-masing negara, membicarakan perbedaan masing-masing negara, saling bertukar ilmu dan pengetahuan hingga obrolan ringan demi mengisi waktu. Ia sangat baik dan saya pun sangat bersyukur memiliki seorang kawan seperti dia. Ia mengenal saya sebagai orang yang suka bercanda sedangkan saya mengenalnya sebagai sosok multitalenta. Ia memang piawai dalam bermain alat musik, seperti gitar, piano hingga harp. Di samping itu, ia pun piawai dalam menarasikan sebuah cerita narrator. Meski demikian, kami pun pernah terlibat perselisihan mengenai suatu hal yang membuat kami saling menyalahkan satu sama lain. Begitulah realitanya. Dalam menjalani hidup kita tidak selalu sepakat dengan pernyataan orang lain, namun pula seringkali bertentangan dengannya. Saya berdoa pada Tuhan agar kami dapat dipertemukan kembali, baik di Indonesia, Serbia atau belahan bumi lainnya. Saya bersama si gadis Serbia saat berada di kafe selepas tugas mengajar di sekolah Ada satu alasan yang membuat saya ingin kembali ke Republik Ceko. Semua itu berasal dari pengalaman manis saya selama berada di sana. Republik Ceko memiliki keistimewaannya tersendiri yang membuatnya berbeda dari negara lainnya. Meski ia hanya memiliki segelintir WNI, namun ia memiliki banyak orang yang memiliki kepribadian hangat layaknya masyarakat Indonesia yang dikenal oleh dunia oleh sebab ramah tamahnya terhadap bangsa asing. Kini, Republik Ceko adalah rumah keduaku. Sebagus-bagusnya Paris, masih lebih bagus Praha. Lebih romantis. Kata siapa yang go international cuma artis saja? Kamu yang masih berkuliah atau bersekolah pun memiliki kesempatan untuk go international, lho. Hmm... Dengan cara apa, ya? Well, kalau kamu ingin go international, kamu bisa banget nih, dengan study abroad sebagai seorang student exchange atau sebagai volunteer. Kalau student exchange ke luar negeri, pastinya sudah biasa, ya, tetapi, memangnya ada, ya, program volunteer yang sampai ke luar negeri? Wah, ada dong, gaes, pastinya! Kalau kamu penasaran, kamu bisa cek beberapa institusi atau lembaga volunteer seperti AIESEC, WWOOF, United Nations Volunteer dan sebagainya. Perlu kamu ketahui, nih, gaes, dengan mengikuti program volunteer ke luar negeri, kamu akan memiliki banyak manfaat, lho. Salah satu manfaat yang bisa kamu dapatkan adalah mempercantik CV-mu yang nantinya akan dipamerkan kepada para HRD, hehe. Selain itu, kamu bisa belajar beradaptasi dengan kondisi budaya, lingkungan dan orang-orang yang berbeda banget denganmu, belajar berbahasa asing dan sebagainya. Dulu, waktu saya masih duduk di bangku kuliah, saya pernah mengikuti kegiatan yang satu ini, gaes. Setelah saya menyelesaikan program ini, saya merasa mendapatkan beberapa manfaat seperti memiliki teman dari berbagai negara, belajar berbahasa Inggris aktif baik itu tulisan maupun percakapan, jalan-jalan ke daerah dan negara baru, memiliki pengalaman volunteering dan sebagainya. Pokoknya, selain bermanfaat, pastinya seru banget, deh, gaes. Apakah kamu ingin mencoba volunteering ke luar negeri? Jika iya, ada beberapa hal yang perlu kamu ketahui, nih, sebelum kamu mengikuti volunteering ke luar negeri. Hmm... Hal apa saja, ya, yang harus kamu ketahui sebelum pergi ke luar negeri untuk melakukan program volunteer? 1. Ketahui organisasi atau institusi yang mengadakan kegiatan volunteer Hal pertama yang harus kamu lakukan adalah kamu harus mencaritahu organisasi atau institusi yang mengadakan kegiatan tersebut. Hal ini perlu kamu cari tahu agar kamu bisa lihat, nih, track record dari institusi ini. Lho, memangnya kenapa, sih, harus liat track record dari institusinya? Well, ketika saya mau mengikuti volunteer pada saat saya duduk di bangku kuliah, saya harus cati tahu dulu nih, track record dari institusi yang membuat program volunteer tersebut. Saya mencaritahu terlebih dahulu agar saya mengetahui bagaimana aktivitas volunteer yang akan diadakan. Selain itu, saya juga mencari tahu negara-negara mana saja yang bisa saya kunjungi. Selain itu, kita juga harus tahu apakah institusi penyedia kegiatan volunteer ini merupakan institusi yang kredibel atau nggak. Jadi, kalau kamu ingin melakukan volunteer, cari tahu dulu, ya, tentang institusi tersebut. 2. Biaya mengikuti program volunteer Kalau ngomongin volunteering, pasti hampir semua dari kita yang menganggap bahwa kegiatan tersebut adalah gratis tanpa pungutan biaya apapun. Tetapi, ada, lho, beberapa institusi atau organisasi penyedia kegiatan volunteer yang memiliki biaya. Lho, kok, gitu? Kan kita akan membantu mereka melakukan suatu kegiatan, tetapi, kenapa kita yang harus membayar? Well, setiap institusi atau organisasi volunteer berbeda-beda, nih. Ada yang menerapkan biaya administratif untuk semua akomodasimu di negara tersebut dan ada juga yang memang untuk diberikan kepada orang membutuhkan dan terlibat pada kegiatan volunteer tersebut. Nah, maka dari itu, gaes, sebelum kamu melamar suatu aktivitas volunteering, cari tahu dulu, ya, terkait hal ini. Kalau biaya tersebut menggunakan mata uang asing, jangan lupa untuk hitung ke dalam mata uang kita, ya! 3. Kegiatan selama kamu volunteer Sebelum kamu volunteering di negara orang, kamu harus tahu dulu, nih, kegiatanmu selama volunteering. Jangan sampai kamu daftar suatu kegiatan volunteer tetapi nggak tahu akan kegiatannya, ya. Nah, karena kamu akan melakukan volunteer di luar negeri, ada baiknya kamu mengetahui kegiatannya terlebih dahulu dengan tujuan yaitu dapat mempersiapkan sesuatunya sebaik mungkin. Misalnya, kamu nggak tahu kalau salah satu acara volunteer-mu adalah fashion show baju tradisional negara. Nah, karena kamu nggak tahu, akhirnya kamu nggak membawa baju daerahmu. Kalau sudah kayak gitu, siapa yang repot? Sudah berada di luar negeri untuk volunteer, eh, malah ketinggalan baju, susah deh, nyarinya. 4. Ketahui biaya hidup di negara tujuanmu Ketika kamu melakukan volunteer, ada beberapa kemungkinan yang bisa terjadi dan berkaitan dengan masalah biaya hidup. Yang pertama, kamu nggak dimintai sejumlah biaya untuk akomodasimu tetapi kamu harus memenuhi akomodasimu oleh uang pribadi. Yang kedua, kamu dimintai biaya dan dipenuhi masalah biaya akomodasimu. Yang ketiga, kamu dipungut biaya tapi kamu juga yang memenuhi akomodasimu. Nah, apapun yang terjadi, kamu harus tahu biaya hidup di negara tujuanmu untuk volunteer. Ketika kamu mengetahui berapa biaya hidupmu selama volunteering di negara tujuanmu, setidaknya, kamu bisa menabung agar kamu memiliki cukup uang untuk memenuhi akomodasimu selama di negara tujuan. Dulu, waktu saya akan mrlakuakn volunteering ke luar negeri, saya berusaha untuk mencaritahu harga makanan, minuman, sim card dan barang-barang lainnya yang akan saya perlukan selama disana. Nah, kamu bisa mencari ini dengan membaca berbagai macam artikel yang tersedia di mesin pencari. Dengan begitu, kamu pun akhirnya bisa mengestimasikan budget yang akan kamu perlukan. 5. Ketahui berapa lama pembuatan visa-mu Yesh! Ini nih yang paling penting! Ketika kamu ingin volunteering ke luar negeri, kamu harus tahu apakah negara tujuanmu membutuhkan visa yang harus diurus dari negara asal atau hanya cukup dengan visa on arrival. Kalau ternyata kamu memerlukan visa yang harus diurus dari negara asal, kamu harus tahu juga berapa lama proses pembuatannya. Jangan sampai, sudah waktunya kamu berangkat tetapi visamu belum jadi dibuat. Hal penting lainnya, kamu juga harus tahu tentang berapa lama visa tersebut bisa digunakan. Kalau kamu akan melakukan volunteer selama dua bulan tetapi ternyata satu visa hanya bisa digunakan selama satu bulan, maka, kamu harus membeli dua visa, gaes. Nah, hal yang satu ini merupakan hal yang sangat penting tapi banyak dilupakan atau ditunda pengurusannya oleh mereka yang ingin pergi volunteering atau study exchange ke luar negeri. Kamu jangan kayaj gitu, ya, gaes, agar kamu nggak kerepotan selama volunteer di negara tujuanmu. *** Nah, itu dia lima hal yang perlu banget kamu ketahui sebelum kamu pergi untuk program volunteering di luar negeri. kelima hal di atas merupakan basic yang wajib banget untuk kamu ketahui. Kalau kamu nggak mengetahui kelima hal di atas, mungkin, kamu akan kesulitan ketika kamu ingin mendaftar program volunteer tersebut atau kamu akan merasa kesulitan ketika kamu sudah berada di negara tujuanmu.
